DEFENDING AGAINST WEAPONS
A significant portion of Aikido techniques are based on sword movements, and many of them involve defending against weapons.
We provide a focused class on weapon training; whereby students can safely learn the proper techniques for attacking and defending with weapons. The class teaches various weapon kata that complement empty-hand Aikido techniques.
Aikido primarily uses three weapons, namely the Bokken (Japanese wooden sword), Tanto (knife) and Jo (staff). By practicing with weapons, students gain a better understanding of fundamental Aikido principles, including proper distancing from an attacker (ma-ai) and avoiding the line of attack.
The weapons training is open to all adults, including those who are new to Aikido.
