Welcoming Rafal Rzepus Shidoin, Bumeikan, Poland to the ASI!

Aikido Shudokan International would like to welcome Rafal Rzepus Shidoin, 3rd Dan, and his dojo, Bumeikan. Based in Poland, Rafal Shidoin has a long history with Aikido Shudokan and Joe Thambu Shihan worldwide, and we look forward to having him be a part of our group.

Rafal Rzepus Shidoin has been teaching Aikido since 1999 and has been a full-time Aikido instructor since 2004.

His Aikido journey started in 1996 under Ted Stratton Sensei (9th Dan SIAI). After the passing of Stratton Sensei in 2000, he met Hiromichi Nagano Sensei (8th Dan Yoshinkan Aikido) who became his direct teacher.

In 2003, he was tested for Shodan by Nagano Sensei and the next year, in Munich he passed the instructor’s exam. It was the first such exam passed by a Polish Yoshinkan Aikido instructor. In 2004, Rafal Shidoin’s dojo was named Bumeikan, a name given by Nagano Sensei, and as a second Polish dojo, was registered in IYAF.

In 2008, Rafal Shidoin was tested for 2nd Dan by Inoue Kyoichi Hanshi, Nagano Hiromichi Sensei and Takeshima Saburo Sensei. After that test, he received rank of 3rd Dan, which was probably the first such situation in Europe on the level of Yudansha.

Many times he had the privilege to take part in the unique one-week Intensive Courses conducted by Jacques Muguruza Sensei in Spain.

For the last 20 years of his Budo path, he took part in numerous training courses and Aikido seminars not only in Poland but also in other countries such Germany, England, the Czech Republic, France, Spain, Belgium and Ukraine. During this time, he met and had a chance to practice under many outstanding Aikido teachers like Inoue Kyoichi Hanshi, Takeno Takafumi Saiko Shihan, Chida Tsutomu Shihan, Kiyoyuki Terada Sensei, Thamby Rajah Sensei, Robert Mustard Shihan, Tsuneo Ando Shihan, Nagano Hiromichi Shihan, Jacques Muguruza Sensei, Tony Yates Sensei, Jacques Payet Shihan, Chino Susumu Shihan, David Rubens Sensei, Kevin Block Sensei, Obata Toshishiro Kaiso, Malcolm Crawford Sensei, Jon Marshal Sensei but the teacher he met on the mat the most was Joe Thambu Shihan.

Rafal Shidoin met Joe Thambu Shuseki Shihan in 2004 in Poland during a memorable Aikido seminar conducted also by Thamby Rajah Sensei, Ken Robson Sensei and John Russell Sensei. Since then, he took many trips abroad following Joe Thambu Shihan’s seminars in UK, Germany, the Czech Republic, Ukraine and Poland.

That direct contact and what he received and experienced from Joe Thambu Shihan, such as his teaching, talks and several visits in the Bumeikan full-time dojo, has had and still has a huge impact on his Aikido.
